The case studies were helpful as I was studying Immunology. This was a required text book for one of my classes, and although the case studies went into more depth than I needed, it was always helpful for the test. I really liked that there were answers in the back of the book, it helped me to know if I was on the right track with the answers I came up with.

I purchased the initial edition some years back when that one originally came out, and purchased this new one recently to brush up on immunodeficiencies and they added some new cases/updated old ones based on recent litterature. This is a fantastic book, period. Great diagrams and pictures, with case presentations and very well written text. A great book to learn about immunology/immunodeficiencies.

I pretty much have to write a review on this since it got me through medical school immunology. In a course that was poorly organised, this book went above and beyond in teaching me the basic concepts (the intricacies of the complement system can be difficult for a beginner!) and the really important molecular biochemistry essential to understanding how the immune system works. While there may be more details than you might need in terms of undergraduate medical education classroom exams, I bet that if you do an immunology rotation or something of the sort, you'll shine.This book is solid and I'm holding on to it through med school. The reason being, it explains a ton of immunological disorders and the types of infections and co-morbidities you're likely to encounter in a patient with them. Also, I liked the little post-it note graphics on the pages with high-yield information. This book also goes through treatments your patient should get, and even down to the dosages which is super useful. I also liked how in each case you would get lab values/results and a breakdown of what each Ig was and what it should be normally, so you have guided learning. This book also has practice questions that help you get the material down rather well.I studied this along with Abbas, but definitely spent more time with Geha & Rosen. Good luck!

I used this book along with Kuby Immunology while taking the class. This book gives a little summary of background before each case. It helps you to reinforce what you learn and helps me to retain the information better. I took this class as an undergrad and I was able to understand the material in this book. Definitely worth every penny.

I'm really torn about this review. I want to support Christian causes and people—but on the other had I don't think that "excellence" should be sacrificed in the name of doing something for God.This book is called "Tortured for Christ"—but the author admits he didn't want to share much detail about what he and others went through. So he figuratively takes a reader up to the door where they were tortured—and then to their brokenness and injuries after the fact.I wasn't particularly looking for a play by-play of what they went through—but he gave only a brief glimpse into that—and I was expecting more—both to strengthen my own faith and perhaps better equip me for what I might face in the future—since suffering is a universal promise for Christians—and we in the west might be facing the same things as we get closer and closer to Christ's return.The book was written QUICKLY—and in my opinion that is pretty obvious. Also—instead of just sharing his experience and laying out steps that we can take to help—the author was condemning at times of the western church for not being more supportive of the eastern underground church—perhaps because he felt this burden so strongly—but I found that a bit heavy handed and think he could have just presented what happened to him to open the eyes of people in the west.I understand this book has sold millions of copies and that MANY people enjoy it—it just wasn't for me.

I could say so much about this book. But for now just that when I'm feeling cranky or whiny about how difficult life is in this impoverished country called America, it's the perfect remedy to make me grateful again and give me a reality check. Stand up people.So powerful. In the right hands.

It defies the natural laws of the world and is one of the sure testimonies of the Spirit is God working to save even the foulest of men, for his own glory.
